MOCHILAB / GUIDE

Connect Telegram

Create a bot with BotFather, connect OpenClaw and pair your account to start chatting.

1. Create your bot

Confirm that the host model replies. In Telegram, check the exact @BotFather handle, run /newbot, name your bot and save its token. Official setup ↗

2. Add it on the Gateway host

Use an interactive terminal and enter the token privately when prompted:

openclaw channels add --channel telegram
openclaw channels status --probe

Enter the bot token from step 1. The channels login telegram command is not used for this route. A pre-installed image may provide a channel panel.

3. Approve your first DM

Message your own bot first, then run on the host:

openclaw pairing list telegram
openclaw pairing approve telegram CODE

Replace CODE with your current request after verifying the sender. Codes expire; refresh the list when necessary. Send another small task. Channel commands ↗

4. Configure groups separately

After private chat works, configure group IDs, sender permissions and mention rules. A -100 ID belongs to a group; use user IDs for sender allowlists. Check Gateway state, channel readiness and model quota for missing replies, and redact tokens from support screenshots.
