MOCHILAB / GUIDE

Your First Skill Exercise: Make a File Organization Plan

Install the free file organizer Skill, try its sample folder and create a category plan with a duplicate report.

What you will make

Give the assistant a folder. It produces an extension-based organization plan and identifies files with identical content. Review report.md and plan.json; the source files stay in place.

1. Download and install the Skill

Download File Organization Plan and Duplicate Report and extract the ZIP. Move its mochi-file-organizer folder into skills/ in your active OpenClaw workspace. The final path should be skills/mochi-file-organizer/SKILL.md, with scripts/ alongside it.

Use Node.js 24.16+ or 26.1+ on the host running OpenClaw. In that host’s terminal, run:

openclaw skills check

2. Try the included sample

In your connected chat app, tell the assistant:

Use mochi-file-organizer to scan its samples/sample-input folder. Save the category plan and duplicate report in a new file-plan-demo folder in my workspace.

The sample includes identical files so you can see how duplicate groups appear.

3. Use your own folder

Replace “FULL FOLDER PATH” with the actual folder you want to inspect, then send:

Use the file organizer Skill to inspect “FULL FOLDER PATH”. Suggest categories, identify duplicate files and save the reports in a new folder outside the scanned directory.

4. Read the results

Open report.md for the category and duplicate overview, then use plan.json to inspect suggested paths. Ask the assistant to summarize the report by file type, duplicate group or file size.
